Intel to start facility in Chennai

CHENNAI:Intel Corp. will start a production facility in Chennai, Union minister for communications and information technology, Dayanidhi Maran said.

However no further details about what will be manufactured at the proposed plant, or whether it will be a fabrication facility, were available. Though it is said that Intel may make a wafer fabrication unit.

Maran said, " They (Intel) are waiting for the special economic zone policy to be announced." The minister has assured Intel chairman Craig Barrett when they met last year that the project would be put on a fast track arrangement.
