Naseeruddin
Shah joined the Pune Film Institute while still in school. He
graduated to theatre, where he caught the eye of Shyam
Benegal in 1975. Shyam Benegal went on to cast him in a
number of films and Naseer remained a favourite with the
director for many years to come. Nishaant, his first film,
revealed Naseer's ability to emote. Junoon in 1979 and
catapulted him to fame and recognition. An actor par
excellence, he gave sterling performances in Masoom, Khandaan,
Paar and Pestonjee.
For many years he was acclaimed as an actor of art films.
However, Naseer proved his critics wrong with commercial
successes like Tridev, Mohra, Chahat and Vishwatma. Most
recently, Sarfarosh has Naseer perform with his trademark
talent.
