Saturday, February 19, 2005 (New Delhi):

Congress President Sonia Gandhi is campaigning in Bihar today for the third phase of voting on February 23.

She addressed a rally in Siwan, the constituency of RJD MP Shahabuddin.

"Four days from now you are going to decide the future of Bihar. This is a very important thing. One wrong decision can lead to a hundred problems," said Sonia.

"We are all very concerned with the state Bihar is in now," she added.

Divisive politics

Addressing another election in Udhawa in Jharkhand today, the Congress chief accused the BJP of pursuing divisive politics for selfish reasons.

"The previous NDA regime failed to provide equal rights to the people as its politics has been centered around attaining the seat of power," she said.

Urging to vote for party candidate Thomas Hansda from Rajmahal constituency, she accused the BJP and its allies of conspiring to divide the society on communal grounds.

Earlier, Shahabuddin was given bail by the Patna High Court yesterday in the kidnapping and murder case of CPI-ML leader Munna Choudhary.

The RJD leader, however, has been banned by the administration from entering Siwan.

Peaceful campaigning

The campaigning for the third phase, which will end tomorrow, has been peaceful so far.

After the first two phases, the Congress has indicated it will give tacit support to RJD candidates in a bid to stop the BJP-JD (U) from coming to power. (With PTI inputs)
