Santhome Cathedral Basilica:

The name Santhome comes from St. Thomas, the disciple of Jesus, who according to some is believed to have come to India during 52 AD. There is also a history that he was killed on the St. Thomas mount in 78 AD and his remains were preserved in the Santhome Beach where a church was built. The church depicts the Gothic style of architecture and is especially for the Catholic Christians. The history of the church is what attracts a lot of tourists and localites to the church. Visiting the church is easier as there are a lot of autorickshaws, taxis and call taxis available.

St. Thomas Mount:

Also known as Parangi Malai in Tamil, this place is situated on a hill top and is named after St. Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ, where he is believed to have been martyred. During Easter month, people climb the steps all the way up to this hill top to reach the church singing hymns and songs of Jesus Christ. This is also an excursion spot for schools as the church overlooks the international air terminal and children are excited to see the take offs or landings of flights.

Anderson Church:

This is situated in Broadway and is famous for its unique, slim towering steeple. It is named after Anderson John who was an educationalist popular for spreading the mission of education.

St.Mary's Church:

This is located at Fort St. George constructed during the British period, and is found hidden amongst the government secretariat buildings housed within the walls of the Fort.

St. Andrews's Kirk Cathedral:

This Presbyterian Church is located on the Poonamalee high road. This church stands unique in following the neo classical style with a circular form.

Armenian Church:

Located in the Armenian street in the busy streets of George Town, is this quiet church which looks deserted even on the Sundays as it has no Armenian communities in the city to attend the church.

Church of Our Lady of Light:

This church is situated a mile away from the Santhome basilica. It is also popularly known as the Luz church. It is the oldest church constructed in Chennai with the altar done up in silver and gold leaf.
