As per announcement by School Education department of Government of Tamil Nādu all schools are allowed to operate by maintaining the necessary COVID precautions. The school opening date has already been announced as Feb 1, 2022. However, some schools have staggered their opening over the next 2-3 weeks.
School Holiday Due to Cyclone
The Government of Tamil Nadu has declared 25th & 26th as holidays for all schools in 13 districts in the state. Online classes will be suspended during this time.
Advisory on School Opening in Chennai
According to the press release from – The School Education Department, Government of Tamilnadu all the schools will remain closed until further orders. Based on the updates from UGC and CBSE it is estimated that the school will start functioning post-December 15, 2020 only after consultation with the various stakeholders..
However, online classes can be scheduled for all classes.

Old Notification by District Collector of Chennai / School Education Department
Government Notification: Due to the expected rains (cyclone) to cross Chennai coast tomorrow (Nov 26, 2016) the District Collector and the Education Department, Government of Tamilnadu has declared a holiday for all the Schools and Colleges in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur District.
So Schools and Colleges will not be working and will remain closed on account of this.
Authority to Close School
Under the guideline issued by the School Education Department, Government of Tamilnadu in 2018, the School authorities should decide to close school upto 3 hours before the opening of the school subject to the prevailing weather conditions at the time.
Also mere warnings or mild drizzle cannot be grounds for cancellation of School.
