Route 62 is the primary cross-town connector between Chennai’s northern reservoir town of Red Hills and the western hub of Poonamallee — a 32.3 km route cutting through the industrial and residential corridor of Avadi and Ambattur. It connects the northern and western extremes of the city without requiring a change at Broadway or Koyambedu. At a 9-minute average frequency, Route 62 is relatively well-served for a route of this length.

Route Variants
Route 62 has four variants worth knowing:
62A — Ambattur Estate to Red Hills (covers the northern section of the 62 corridor)
62D — Puzhal to Koyambedu Market (cross-city variant serving the Puzhal / Red Hills area to CMBT)
62E — Koyambedu Market to Madhanakuppam
62ET — Poonamallee to Padiyanallur (extended beyond Red Hills northward)
If your destination is on the 62 corridor but you cannot board the main 62, check whether a variant covers your section.

Traveller Tips
Avadi industrial access: For workers at HVF, CVRDE, and other defence establishments in Avadi, Route 62 provides a direct bus from Poonamallee. Avadi also has a suburban railway station — for passengers from Broadway/Egmore, the train to Avadi and a local transfer may be faster.
Ambattur Industrial Estate: For routes to Broadway or the city centre from Ambattur, dedicated routes (70, 70A) from Ambattur Bus Stand are more direct than Route 62.
