VGP Wonder World — Chennai’s First Night Theme Park Experience
Chennai is set to introduce its first-ever night theme park experience at VGP Wonder World on Saturday March 21, from 6 PM for five hours. The event transforms the popular amusement destination into a vibrant nighttime celebration filled with lights, music, and non-stop entertainment.
VGP Wonder World, the amusement park run by the VGP Group on the East Coast Road, has been a Chennai family staple for decades. The VGP Group — which also operates VGP Golden Beach Resort and VGP Marine Kingdom — is one of Chennai’s oldest leisure businesses, founded in the 1960s by V.G. Panneerdas. This night edition is the group’s first attempt at an adult-oriented, after-dark festival format at the Wonder World property.
Visitors can enjoy unlimited access to thrilling rides, which feel even more exciting under the night sky. The park is designed to create a visually stunning experience making every moment feel magical and immersive. One of the biggest highlights of the night is a live DJ performance. The event also features a foam party and dance floor sections, turning the grounds into something closer to an outdoor club-festival hybrid.
For Chennai, where nightlife has historically been limited compared to Bengaluru or Mumbai, an after-dark theme park event is genuinely novel. The ECR location adds to the atmosphere — the combination of ocean breeze, coastal air, and a lit-up amusement park is a setting that simply does not exist anywhere else in the city.
At Rs 499 for five hours of unlimited rides, live DJ, and foam party access, the entry is accessible. The 21+ age restriction signals this is pitched firmly at the young professional and couples market rather than a family event. Given the novelty factor and the weekend timing, expect high footfall — arrive closer to the 6 PM opening if you want the rides before the queues build.
How to get there: VGP Wonder World is on ECR near Injambakkam. From Velachery, take a cab or the ECR bus south for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. From OMR, the Injambakkam exit connects directly to ECR. Parking is available on-site.
