Buses no longer start from the Broadway bus stand in George Town. From 24 January 2026, MTC moved every service that used the stand to two temporary termini at Royapuram and Island Grounds while the site is rebuilt, according to an MTC notice dated 21 January 2026. The route numbers have not changed, and on the first day DT Next found destination boards still reading Broadway, so riders need to know which routes they are looking for and where to wait.
This guide uses MTC route data on our own route pages to show where the Broadway routes go, how far they run and how often a bus is scheduled, from the six-minute 15G to the once-in-five-hours run to Thathamanji beyond Minjur. It covers 18 routes whose pages we opened; Broadway has many more, so treat this as a map of the main directions rather than a complete timetable.
What changed at Broadway in 2026
The old stand, on the block between NSC Bose Road and TNPSC Road, is being replaced by an integrated multi-modal facility complex of about 26,240 sq m, which Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited is preparing to build, DT Next reported. Plans include several entry blocks and an underground subway linking to the Kuralagam basement. The idea is older than the shift: Swarajya reported in November 2023 that CMRL had begun designing a multimodal complex on the 4.42-acre Broadway plot in October 2022.
The first days were rough. DT Next described crowds between the Raja Annamalai Mandram stop on Esplanade Road and Kuralagam junction, no route boards at the old stand and few staff to guide people. One rider paid Rs 100 for an auto to Royapuram, only to be sent on to Island Grounds. The lesson is to confirm your terminal before you set out.
Where the Broadway routes go
The table lists the routes we checked, grouped by direction. Several, such as D18, E18 and 254, list High Court as their first stop, which is the stop beside the old stand.

Frequent workhorses and long hauls
Two routes carry the idea of a “turn up and go” bus from Broadway. 15G to M.M.D.A. Colony is listed at a bus every six minutes, and the 21G page puts the Tambaram service at about seven minutes on average, with longer midday gaps of 20 to 30 minutes. 120 to Avadi, at about 14 minutes, is the busiest of the western routes we checked.

At the other end are the long suburban runs. 587 reaches Thiruporur by the East Coast Road in 50 km, 527 goes 49.6 km north through Tiruvottiyur and Minjur, and 557 reaches Gummidipoondi. These run every two and a half hours or less often, so check the time before you go.
Three directions from George Town
- South along Anna Salai and GST Road: D18, E18 and 579 run via Saidapet and Guindy to Tambaram and beyond, while 254 turns west at Guindy for Porur and Poonamallee.
- West: the 15 series serves Aminjikarai and Anna Nagar, and the 17 series runs via Egmore or Gemini to Vadapalani and Porur.
- North: 33, 142B, 64B and 557 cover Vyasarpadi, Perambur, Madhavaram and the Red Hills belt.
- Board at Royapuram or Island Grounds, not the old stand, until MTC announces that Broadway has reopened.
- Your route number is unchanged; ask the timekeeper at either temporary terminal which one your route uses.
- For Tambaram, 21G and the 18 series together give the best choice of buses.
