Three MTC routes in the route data run all the way to Sriperumbudur from different sides of Chennai: 583C from Tambaram, 578A from Vadapalani and 562A from Red Hills. The last one is the only route here that stops at SIPCOT and Irungattukottai, the industrial stretch along the highway on the Chennai side of the town.
A warning before you board anything marked Oragadam. In MTC’s route data the Oragadam served by routes 20C and 27T is the one near Ambattur, reached past Ambattur Estate and Ambattur O.T., not the Oragadam auto-industry cluster near Sriperumbudur. This guide sets out which buses actually reach the Sriperumbudur belt and how often they run.
Three approaches to Sriperumbudur
Each route comes in from a different direction. 583C heads west from Tambaram through Mudichur, Manimangalam and Kolathur. 578A goes out through Porur and Kundrathur, then Somangalam and Nallur. Both meet at Pillaipakkam and Pattunulchatram before the town. 562A takes a long northern arc from Red Hills through Ambattur, Avadi and Poonamallee, then along the highway past Chembarambakkam, SIPCOT and Irungattukottai.

The gaps quoted here are averages from MTC route data published on our route pages; they may be dated and real waits vary by time of day, so check live timings on the official MTC site or the Chennai One app before you set out.

From the south
From Tambaram and the GST Road suburbs, 583C is the shortest ride at 27 km, starting at the Tambaram new terminus. Buses average one every 1.5 hours.
From the city and the west
From Vadapalani, Valasaravakkam and Porur, or anyone who can reach the Kundrathur bus stand, take 578A. It runs through Valasaravakkam, Porur and Kundrathur bus stand, and averages a bus every 1.3 hours.
From the north and Poonamallee
Route 562A is the longest at 51.8 km and the least frequent, at an average of 2.7 hours between buses, but it is the one to use for the SIPCOT stop and Irungattukottai. It also serves Ambattur, Avadi and Poonamallee riders, and it is the only one of the three that passes Chembarambakkam and Thandalam on the highway.
It’s often said a bus with Oragadam on the board will get you to the Oragadam industrial area near Sriperumbudur.
The figures show routes 20C (21.8 km from Broadway) and 27T (23.3 km from T. Nagar) both end at an Oragadam just past Ambattur O.T. in the route data. Neither goes near Sriperumbudur.
Route 562A is the only route in this guide with a SIPCOT stop, on its way from Red Hills to Sriperumbudur via Irungattukottai (route data). The state also runs a SIPCOT innovation park at Sriperumbudur (TANII).
Practical tips for workers and visitors
With gaps of more than an hour on every route, plan around the timetable rather than turning up at the stop, and ask the crew about the return trip. The first buses on all three routes leave at 5 am from both ends, according to the route pages.
