To mark International Women’s Day, Puducherry has announced free boat rides for women at two popular tourism locations. The offer applies to the boat houses operated under the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation.
According to the announcement, women visitors can take boat rides without paying the usual fee at:
- Nonankuppam (Chunnambar)
- Ousteri (Osudu Lake)
The move is aimed at encouraging women’s participation in public recreation spaces and is expected to draw higher footfall to these spots during the day.
Tourism officials described the initiative as a symbolic Women’s Day gesture and encouraged visitors to use the opportunity. Chunnambar, in particular, is a well-known weekend destination for families and tourists, while Ousteri is often chosen for shorter, quieter outings.
The offer is positioned as a one-day concession, tied specifically to Women’s Day celebrations.
