If you want to see Tirumala in January 2027, the booking window opens this week. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams will release Rs 300 Special Entry Darshan tickets for January on 24 October at 10 am, with Tirumala and Tirupati rooms at 3 pm the same day, The Hans India reported on 18 October. All of it goes through the official TTD portal, ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in.
From Chennai the trip itself is simple: Tirupati is a few hours away by train or bus, and many families do it as a long day or a single overnight. The hard part is the darshan slot. Here is what each darshan type means, the January 2027 release calendar, and how to get there.
January 2027 release calendar
These are the dates TTD has announced for January 2027 quotas, as reported by The Hans India. Times are IST, and every booking is online.
| Quota | Release |
|---|---|
| Arjitha sevas by electronic dip (Suprabhatham, Thomala, Archana and others) | 19 Oct, 10 am; registration until 21 Oct, 10 am |
| Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Sahasra Deepalankara | 22 Oct, 10 am |
| Virtual seva tickets and linked darshan | 22 Oct, 3 pm |
| Angapradakshinam tokens | 23 Oct, 10 am |
| Srivani Trust darshan | 23 Oct, 11 am |
| Senior citizens, differently abled, chronically ill | 23 Oct, 3 pm |
| Rs 300 Special Entry Darshan | 24 Oct, 10 am |
| Accommodation, Tirumala and Tirupati | 24 Oct, 3 pm |
Devotees who win the seva e-dip must pay by noon on 23 October, the report says. TTD follows the same pattern every month: a quota release in the third or fourth week, roughly three months ahead. The TTD news release for January 2026, issued in October 2025, followed a near-identical sequence.
Darshan types, in plain terms
- Rs 300 Special Entry Darshan: a paid, time-slotted ticket booked online. This is the one most Chennai families aim for. Tickets for popular dates go within minutes, so log in early with your details ready.
- Sarva Darshan (free): time-slotted Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD) tokens are issued at three counters in Tirupati. In July 2026, TTD issued 10,000 such tokens for a Wednesday and they ran out within an hour, Deccan Chronicle reported; it also cancelled Thursday tokens for four weeks in a row because of crowds.
- Footpath tokens: devotees who walk up by the Srivari Mettu path have been given an extra token quota, 2,000 on the day Deccan Chronicle described.
- Senior citizens and the differently abled: a separate free quota, released online on its own date.
- Srivani Trust darshan: linked to a donation to TTD’s Srivani Trust; check the portal for the current terms.
- Arjitha sevas and Angapradakshinam: allotted by electronic lucky dip or online release.
Booking tips
- Create your TTD login and add every pilgrim’s photo ID details before release day.
- Use only ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in. TTD has repeatedly warned about middlemen and look-alike sites.
- Book the darshan first, then rooms. Rooms open five hours later on the same day.
- Carry the same ID you entered at booking. Names must match.
Getting there from Chennai
Train: Southern Railway runs daytime expresses between Chennai Central and Tirupati. A Chennai Division notice from May 2024 listed the 16057 Sapthagiri Express leaving Central at 6.25 am and the 16053 Tirupati Express at 2.25 pm, with return services 16058 and 16054. Check the current timetable on the National Train Enquiry System before booking; timings are revised from time to time.
Bus: A DT Next guide to festival services, published on 16 October 2026, lists Koyambedu as the Chennai boarding point for Tirupati buses. Both TNSTC and APSRTC run on the route.
If you miss the online quota, you still have options. The free Slotted Sarva Darshan tokens are issued in Tirupati a day or so ahead of the darshan date, though, as the July 2026 cancellations showed, TTD can suspend them at short notice when crowds peak. Families with elderly members should try the separate senior citizen and differently abled quota on 23 October rather than queue for SSD tokens. And if your dates are flexible, weekdays outside school holidays and festival weeks are far easier than weekends. January also includes the Sankranti holidays, which bring heavy crowds, so check your date against TTD’s festival calendar before you book.
From Tirupati, TTD’s own buses run up the ghat road to Tirumala, or you can walk up by the Alipiri or Srivari Mettu footpaths. Keep half a day spare for the queue complex even with a slotted ticket.
