Born in 1935, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan did not show any early inclination towards music, despite being in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist and a Sanskrit scholar. It was to stand in for the usual violinist, who could not come to the Karthigai festival, that the nine-year-old took up the violin. Within eleven months, he was able to accompany his sisters.
Performing solo recitals since 1965, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan’s ever-smiling visage is the trademark sign of the delight he gets from the music he plays. Apart from being a master violinist, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan has also directed and composed music for over 40 films.
